Amaira's POV:
Wearing a saree on my farewell has always been on my bucket list because I never wore a saree much. It's always THE OCASSIONS when I got to wear a saree, not that I was uncomfortable in it, but there were no special occasions to wear a saree.
Last time I remember, I wore a saree two times, once during the 10th farewell and again during the 12th farewell, and this is the third time.
Today I am wearing a beautiful red saree paired with golden bangles and a chain. As I wanted to wear my heavy earrings, I kept the rest of the of the accessories a little mininum.(outfit photo at the end of chapter)
I went to my dressing table, where I keep all my accessories along with makeup. I opened the door and searched for my 'that' earring, but then I remembered how I lost it two years ago and never got it back.
It was my favorite jhumka for a reason; it was given to me by my childhood best friend as a sign of our friendship before she moved to the US for her further studies.
That jhumka was a sign that our friendship will always be alive, even if we are countries apart. It hurts me to this day to think how clumsy I was to lose that special earring.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize Manvi came in my room getting all ready; she tapped on my shoulder, and I fliched coming out of the memories that I will always cherish of me and my first childhood best friend.
A few drops of tears were formed in my eyes, and I flapped my eyes to brush them off. Manvi noticed it. "Hey, why are you crying?" she asked me in worry, and I just nodded my head in No, but I am sure she is not okay with my answer.
She made her way towards my bed, where she kept her bag. I took out lipstick and closed the door of the dressing table. I applied my lipstick and then gave a light touch of compact on my already makeup face. I kept my makeup a little light because I am never a fan of heavy makeup, so keeping it simple, I was almost done.
I turned around to see Manvi right in front of me smiling widely, and I was so confused because in the past 2 minutes neither I said anything nor she, so what was the reason for her to smile?
"Amaira, close your eyes and keep your right hand open," she said. Confusion covered my face as I was not even getting any hint about what Manvi was going to do, but I closed my eyes and forwarded my right hand.
The very next second, a pair of jhumkas were handed to me, and as I opened my eyes, the view of those beautiful jhumkas matching my saree came in front of me.
I smiled in happiness and hugged her immediately. "Omygod Manvi, thank you so much. This is the best thing that could happen today. You know, I was missing my favorite jhumka just a few minutes ago, and my mood was fowl because of that," I said to her while hugging her.
She came out of the hug still holding my shoulders. "I know, my girl, I knew you must be missing that jhumka. Now that I can't bring it back, I thought of giving you this pair of jhumka. It's absolutely not a replacement for that jhumka, because I know your memories with the jhumka and your childhood bestie, so this is a new jhumka for you to store all the memories of today's farewell," she said, and tears formed in my eyes hearing her words.
"Abhi pehenegi bhi ya mujehi dekhti rhegi," she said, and I chuckled, nodding, wearing the earrings quickly, and we left for college together.
(" now will you wear it or keep looking at me")
After my childhood best friend moved to the US after 10th grade, I thought I might not get any other friends, but Manvi came into my life as a ray of light. In 11th grade, we didn't talk much, but in 12th grade, we became so close that we are inseparable, and Manvi is the best thing that has happened to me. Alongside, I also got Aayan, who is really caring and more like a brother to me.
Reyansh's POV:
A week has passed since I met Amaira, and her voice, her laugh, those deep black, beautiful eyes, and that adorable smile never left my mind. It felt like she had brought a wave of happiness into my life, and I still wish to meet her again and again.
I might sound selfish, but being around Amaira is the happiest place I can be. I never thought that love could be this powerful, but now that I have been in love and that it has been one-sided for the past two years, I realize the power of love.
Today, as I bid goodbye to the college that gave me numerous memories, I want to create some memories with Amaira too. On this special day of farewell, I want to have at least a talk with her, and I might sound desperate, but a photo with her can help me survive.
Thinking about the farewell makes me sad too because I am going to leave the college with so many memories with Aayan and also with my other friends, but there is a little more sadness when I think that this might be the last chance I have to see Amaira.
Even though we met that day, I don't know if life will again give me a chance to meet her or not.
Getting ready for the farewell while these thoughts never left my mind, I took my car and went to Aayans place to pick him up so that we could go together.
I wore a slick black suit with white shirt inside, set my hair, and wore those perfect black shoes, and here I was all ready for the farewell.(outfit photo at the end of chapter)
As I reached his place soon I was greeted by his parents, and then he came out, getting ready in his navy blue suit. We then left for the college after saying goodbye to his parents.
Author's POV:
The college campus was beautifully lit with fairy lights hanging in a pattern that spelled 'FAREWELL'.
Reyansh and Aayan reached college early, as THE BOYS gang of the CS department decided to meet early.
As the students of all departments gathered, Reyansh's eyes started searching for Amaira.
In the crowd of hundreds, where everyone is busy clicking photos, he was busy searching for her.
"Are vo dekh amaira," Aayan said in Reyansh's ear in a teasing tone, showing no directions. Reyansh quickly laid his eyes in all the directions but saw no one.
("hey see its amaira")
Aayan laughed, clutching his stomach, and Reyansh rolled his eyes, smiling internally. Aayan patted his back and said, "Aajayegi abhi, they left their house some time ago; they'll reach in 5 minutes," he said, and they both left ahead with the gang to click photos.
On the other hand, Manvi and Amaira entered the college and were greeted by all their other friends. They engaged in taking pictures with each other so much that they solely forgot the existence of these two boys.
Manvi got a call from Aayan, so she excused herself and went aside to take the call.
Meanwhile, Amaira went to drink water near the table where bottles of water were kept.
Amidst the crowd, she found herself lost. She turned back to return to her friends but found herself stuck in the crowd. Making a way, she was walking, taking slow steps, keeping in mind not to step on anyone's saree.
Her walk came to a halt when she felt her saree pallu getting tuked somewhere. She tried moving forwards but felt like someone was carrying her pallu.
She thought someone was doing this on purpose, and frustrated, Amaira turned back, yelling, "Aakhe hei ya button, pallu kyu khich..." but her yelling came to a halt when she saw Reyansh trying to carefully solve the tangled pallu in his watch without letting it fall on the ground.
Hearing her voice, he looked up abruptly, still holding it delicately, and their eyes locked with each other for a moment.
Amaira quickly averted her gaze, getting nervous being a little close to him, but reyansh, he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Seeing her in a saree is like his dream coming true. 'BEAUTIFUL' he said in a low voice. Amaira blushed hearing it from him but realized what she was doing, and then she shook her hand in front of his eyes, bringing him out of his imaginary world.
"Hey", she said in her low voice, and he smiled ear to ear, replying with a "hello".
She gestured at him with her eyes, asking about why he was holding the pallu, and he replied with gestures that the pallu was stuck in his watch. Their gestures made them smile as if their eyes had all the power to speak.
She walked a little closer to him, taking the pallu from his hand and untangling it. Their fingers were brushing against each other for a minute, making their hearts flutter.
He kept looking at her, and she couldn't stop herself from smiling. "I think you are too much into Bollywood," she said, loosening the pallu and giving his now empty hand a clap to bring him into reality.
He nervously laughed while rubbing his neck lightly with his right hand. "How about we get out of this crowd and meet Manvi? She must be waiting for me," Amaira said nervously.
She found herself getting nervous in front of Reyansh. This feeling of nervousness was too new for her because a sunshine girl like Amaira is an extrovert who can easily mix up with people, but being nervous around Reyansh and that fluttery feeling she gets every time their eyes meet was very new for her.
He nodded, and they moved forward through the crowd; finally, they met Aayan and Manvi.
"Donoke phone band hei ya kaan? Kitne calls lagaye, uthaye hi nai," Manvi said, to which Aayan laughed, seeing her frustrated, and she glared at him, making him seal his laugh.
("your boths phone are close or your ears? how many times we have called you haven't picked up any")
"vo......" Reyansh was about to say something, but Amaira covered the topic, saying, "The crowd was so big that I couldn't hear the ringtone," and Manvi nodded in understanding.
"Theek hei chal abb, now that we are all together, let's click pictures," manvi suggested, and everyone agreed.
They started taking pictures in duos and groups. Finally, it was time for Amairas and Reyansh's photo. They both nervously stood beside each other as if they were standing for the national anthem.
"Aise lag raha hei dono ka arrange marriage karvake diya hei, itne dur dur khade ho," Manvi said and went near them to bring them a little near each other.
("It feels like they have been bounded into arrange marriage, standing far from each other")
She told Reyansh to put his hand near Amaira's waist; he kept his hand near her waist without touching her, making sure that she was not uncomfortable, and Amaira too kept her hand on his back.
They smiled as their faces were gaining pinkish blushes due to the proximity, and finally Aayan clicked their photo. Then they continued the photo sessions, with everyone.
Ending the day with lots of dancing and uncountable memories. They cried, laughed, and enjoyed themselves while bidding goodbye to the college.
To be continued...
